CBE Citation Style: Name-Year System

There are two systems for citing and formatting references using CBE style - the citation-sequence system (numeric citations in the text that correspond to references listed at the end of the paper) and the name-year system (in-text parenthetical citations within the paper and an alphabetical list of references at the end.)  At UMF, the name-year system is most commonly used.

    • from a hardcopy journal (print, microfilm, or microfiche)
    • from an online journal
    • full-text article from a database

  • Articles from Magazines
    • from a hardcopy magazine (print, microfilm, or microfiche)
    • from an online magazine
    • full-text article from a database

  • Articles from Newspapers
    • from a hardcopy newspaper (print, microfilm, or microfiche)
    • from an online newspaper
    • full-text article from a database

  • Books
    • hardcopy books
    • electronic books
    • reference books (such as encyclopedias)

  • Web Pages
